Josh and I met 10 years ago during our sophomore year in high school. I had just experienced, what I thought was, a life ending break up. As a sheltered youth, I had but a few friends and was hurting for support. After a heart to heart conversation during PE class, Josh reached out and invited me to hang out with his group of friends during lunch. We hit it off! After a couple of months, I started dating his girlfriend's best friend, and we never looked back.
Five years later, Josh and I sought after starting a sports nutrition company. After analyzing our market, we realized that supplements were not in our cards, and launched an apparel business named "Titin Sports Nutrition" instead. In September of 2013, we dropped our first two designs, "Shake This" and "Fucking Deadlift", and were off to the races.
After a slow start, Josh and I generated a little bit of momentum. Josh managed shipping, packaging, and customer service concerns, while I worked in the trenches writing informative blogs and tips for our website and social media sites. We had what we thought was, the perfect system for productivity...or so we thought. We basked in our small amounts of momentous success, ignored the little issues that accompany all start up businesses, and kept on. That was a mistake.
After several small business-related hiccups, our friendship suffered. As business owners, Josh and I clashed over anything and everything business related. We were on two different pages 100% of the time, and it wore away at our friendship. We hardly talked, and our business productivity suffered. One year later, a popular sports accessories company threatened us with a cease and desist, and forced us to forfeit our business name. It was a nightmare, and Josh and I were done. We didn't talk for months.
One day, Josh and I met over coffee. We hashed out our issues and revived both our friendship and our business. We set our differences aside and started fresh (note, that is very hard for two stubborn perfectionists to do). In March of 2015, we launched the Athletic Armory and haven't looked back since. With a renewed friendship, heightened motivations, a vision for success, and the support of our families, our friends, and our reps, we set out on a mission to change the world.
You see, your path towards success will not always make sense. You will encounter obstacles, reach your breaking point, and want to quit... but you can't. Josh and I learned the hard way, but we learned, and that is key. Use our story to write your own! Today, I look around at the Athletic Armory community, and am proud. I am proud that myself, Josh, and others have an online hub to call home. A place where, at the end of a long day, each and every one of us can unwind. At the end of the day, Josh and I are more than just business owners, and you are more than just an Athletic Armory brand representative. We are a family. We are all a part of an amazing, purpose-driven movement, and we are all destined for greatness! Learn from our mistakes, and thrive!
